So another week down here in Napoli and this was a big one! We had a baptism and got our transfer calls! Which one should I talk about first? Obviously the important one, THE BAPTISM!!!!
Our investigator L. has come so far. It’s amazing to see the progress he has made in just the time I have known him and also to hear about the person he used to be years ago. This week we tried to meet with him as often as we could to make sure he was ready to do this and he still wanted this for his life. We also had to make sure we had baptismal clothes that fit him and also needed to get the program organized and printed. He’s a more quiet kind of guy so he hasn’t gotten to know too many people in the branch yet so we were figuring out who would be best to do all the roles in the program.
The baptism went super well despite a few speed bumps, his two closest friends were a half hour late…but hey it’s Italy. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, being on the missionary side of a baptism was way more hectic than I thought, maybe that’s because we’re in Italy, I don’t know.
Unfortunately he did not show up to church on Sunday to be confirmed and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost because he apparently became sick in the 12 hours between the last time we saw him on Saturday and church on Sunday, go figure! I’m sad for him though, receiving the Holy Ghost is such a special experience. I would not have wanted to wait a whole week after I was baptized to receive it.
So transfer calls! We received our calls on Saturday morning and I found out………
I’m staying in Napoli!!! Honestly super happy about this. I did not want to get sent somewhere brand new right before Christmas. I’m familiar with this place, I know the people, I know how to get around, I’m comfortable here. Plus I hear Napoli is absolutely incredible for Christmas and New Years and I didn’t want to give up the pizza here yet either. My companion is getting transferred to Terni and leaves on Thursday.
Other updates, the young couple we have been teaching came to church on Sunday which was huge!! My MTC companion is staying here in Napoli too for this next transfer so I’ll have a familiar face for the next 8 weeks. That’s about all I can think of!
So this week I learned something pretty simple. A real meaningful scripture study everyday is so important to our spiritual strength.
Two days this week my companion and I had to go to the Questura (like a DMV or DPS) to apply for our permesso di solgiorno. Since the Italian system is so inefficient we had to be there close to 8am both days which means we were forced to miss our personal study time. There was a huge difference in my energy, my mood, everything throughout those two days. When we had a normal morning again and I had that study time back it was such a relief. So my invitation is this: take the time everyday preferably, in the morning, to study the scriptures.
I promise you will see a change in your life if you do this ridiculously simple thing. Commit to doing it for a week straight, everyday and see what changes. So often we overlook the simple things when they are what have the biggest influence in our lives.
Go do something great this week!
For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children. Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.
2 Nephi 4:15-16
