So in the past week my companion and I have started teaching two new “investigators” and it has just been nonstop preparing every single day for the lessons we have. We are always focused on what it is that we can teach that will help our investigators the most and give them exactly what they are looking for. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, which is an extremely humbling experience for us to recognize how off base we were.
On Saturday my companion and I were teaching a new investigator the first lesson and we were explaining how God is our loving Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is our Savior and performed the Atonement for us. I was speaking and trying my hardest to describe in Italian what the Atonement means to me and how it strengthens me and comforts me every day and the Spirit clearly took over because I do not even know what I said. I was just speaking so easily in Italian – better than I ever have – and our investigator was crying and my companion was crying and I just had no idea what it was that I was saying that was causing these reactions. It taught me a very valuable lesson. Even though the Spirit can work through us stronger than we can even comprehend, that does not always mean that we are able to recognize the Spirit in the moment it is happening. I know that I need to become better at recognizing the voice of the Spirit and be able to channel that ability into the lessons so the investigator can feel it too.
Last night we had a devotional from Dallin H. Oaks, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of our church, who spoke on the teaching manual we use every day. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was just slightly underwhelmed when he began speaking from the manual that I study countless times every day, but I learned that the simple things in life are what go most over looked and until we master those simple things we will never be able to progress to greater things and grow. That was very humbling.
So this week I have been studying Ether in the Book of Mormon and it has been such a encouragement to read the words describing the kind of faith that we should be seeking after in life.
I promise if you read these verses with real intent trying to learn something greater that our Heavenly Father wants to manifest unto you that you will be able to learn the criteria that we need to put forth and fulfill in order to be given the blessings we desire in life!
And I said unto him: Lord, the Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing; for Lord thou hast made us mighty in word by faith, but thou hast not made us mighty in writing; for thou hast made all this people that they could speak much, because of the Holy Ghost which thou hast given them;
