Looking back on this week I think I will remember it as one of the best weeks of my mission. Anziano Coe and I experienced some incredible things this week and I believe I personally experienced immense growth. We have been working with a long time investigator and close friend named Mario recently because we are wanting to get more serious with him about taking the lessons. He honestly is an elderly version of who I used to be before I was baptized. He comes to church every Sunday, he knows branch members, he knows branch leadership, he is involved in branch activities, he knows and likes the doctrine of our church, and yet he isn’t a member of the church. That was me!!
That was me to a T. And I didn’t really realize that until this past week. I remember looking in his eyes during a lesson we had on Saturday and I just saw myself. I saw and remembered everything I used to be. And I realized more fully and more clearly that God has had His hand placed firmly on the course of my life for longer than I can remember. To this day I struggle to explain how I ended up on this mission. The origin of how I came to this point was so minute and so long ago I can’t pinpoint it. To see the wisdom of God in how it only took small redirections here and there to keep me where He needed me to be is so humbling. Realizing this has taught me one absolutely vital fact that I will hold dear to me for the rest of my life: God knows, He has always known, and He loves us. The things we experience are not chance; they come to pass in order for us to grow and progress. Any challenge, pain, or trial we face is all in the wisdom of Him who knows all things. Quoting the words of my very wise mother who gave me advice on this very subject not too long ago, “God, you knew this was going to happen long before I did, so what do you want me to know, what do you want me to do, what do you want me to learn.”
I am so ready to become everything He wants me to be. I’m so excited to serve the people of Italy with all of myself every single day of this year 2016. I am looking forward to the future with arms wide open ready to catch whatever comes my way and learn from it. It’s going to be such a good year. Such a good year!!! Let us all go out and make 2016 the best year we have ever had. We will face challenges but nothing in life worth having comes easy.
I love you all and I pray for you all. If there’s anything I can pray for you more specifically write me an email!
Have a wonderful week!
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
