I think few things can make a missionary happier than general conference weekend!! Seriously it was everything I needed it to be. I had the option of watching it English, but I preferred to watch in Italian in order to be around the members and investigators we had present. Oh yeah, we had investigators come to three sessions!!!! Mariella and Silvio both came to the Saturday morning session which for us was at 18:00. They said it was interesting and a little different from what they expected but they enjoyed it nonetheless! That’s pretty understandable. I didn’t have a strong testimony of general conference until after I was baptized, so the gift of the Holy Ghost helps a lot with that. Besides that, during the week we learned how to make gnocchi again at Mariella’s house and she taught us how to make a simple red sauce. It was super good. I don’t exactly know what went wrong with Italian food in America, but it’s not the same. It’s just not. As for Maria Grazia we had a lesson with her with the help of member Chiara who is one of the sweetest ladies. We talked a lot about personal testimony and knowing things are true for yourself by sincerely asking. Chiara is a powerful and bold teacher, I liked having her help us. I know Maria is so close to baptism she just needs to have that moment when it clicks for her and so we are continually helping her to grow in her testimony of the Book of Mormon because we know that is the foundation of building someone’s faith in Christ and his restored church.
Regarding the conference, I enjoyed so many of the talks and felt like I personally grew a lot but the one that really stuck out to me was from Elder Hales who talked about the suffering of the Savior for us, the love He has for us, the love we need to have for Him, and how we can show it. Like the immortalized lyrics once sung by the Beatles, I think we forget just how important it is to have love. Not the kind of love they might of been referring to, but the pure love of Jesus Christ. The kind of love that motivates us to live righteously, the kind of love that enables us to seek out opportunities to serve others, the kind of love that reminds us that it is not our will but His to be done.
Furthermore, I think the reason we might struggle so greatly with developing this love is because maybe we forget just how much and how perfectly He loves us. Think about it. When you know someone loves you – really really loves you – for who you are, how much more willing are you to serve them and follow them? This makes all the difference. Having a sure knowledge that we are all truly, individually loved. And so at the end of the day, how do we respond to this love? I invite all of you to evaluate just how deeply you are familiar with the love the Savior has for you and when you have grown in your knowledge of these things then ask yourselves, “Now how will I respond?” I know this will bring you such great joy in your life. You will feel of His presence. You will grow closer to Him.
I love you all and pray for you all, please continue on!
